If you're wondering how much mileage Tata Punch CNG offers in city driving, you're in the right place! In this blog, I’ve documented a real-world tank-to-tank mileage test conducted in typical city conditions of Firozabad.
Why This Test?
Although I’ve driven the Punch CNG multiple times in the city and on highways, I never officially recorded the city mileage. Today, I decided to check the actual city mileage using a tank-to-tank method. The aim was to understand how the car performs in real-world city traffic.
Starting the Test
The CNG was already almost full, but since the car had run around 16.7 km, I decided to top it up completely at a company-operated CNG pump in Firozabad. Surprisingly, only 2 kg CNG was filled, which indicates the tank was nearly full already.
Trip meter reset: 0.0 km
Weather: Rainy and pleasant
AC status: ON at 1st level
Traffic conditions: Mild to moderate city traffic
Drive Details
I covered daily errands and drove only within city limits. The trip meter gradually climbed and I noticed something interesting:
-
First 19 km – No drop in fuel bars, which was impressive.
-
The car drove through real city roads — signals, light traffic, and occasional stops.
-
By the end of the test, the trip meter showed 30.9 km before I returned to the same pump for a refill.
Refill Details & Calculation
At the same CNG pump, I again topped up the tank. Here’s what the final stats looked like:
Distance Driven: 31 km
CNG Refilled: 1.3 kg
Cost: ₹122
Mileage:
So yes, in city traffic, the Tata Punch CNG gave an impressive mileage of around 24 km/kg, which is pretty efficient for an SUV-style hatchback.
Driving Experience in the City
Even after 18,000+ km of driving, I find the Punch CNG:
-
Comfortable to drive
-
Gives an SUV-like view with a visible bonnet
-
Has smooth gear shifts and handling, especially in low gears
-
Feels solid and confident even in traffic
Despite being a compact SUV, you don’t feel the stress of driving a “big” car in city lanes.
Final Verdict
If you’re planning to buy a Tata Punch CNG or already own one, you can expect a realistic city mileage between 22–25 km/kg, depending on AC usage and traffic. It performs better than expected, even in stop-and-go traffic.
